Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri, Uthai Thani Province, Thailand

          Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri was built in 2443 BE by Phra Sunthorn Muni- the monk dean of Uthai Thani province. The villagers once called the temple “Wat Kao Sakaekrang” because this temple was located on Sakaerang hill. Also, the temple is one of the mind centers of Uthai Thani residences.


Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri

On the ground floor of Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri is the monastery. There is also a viharn which installs Phra Phutthamongkhon Saksit or Luang Phor Mongkhon- the 600-700 years old Buddha image with the attitude of subduing Mara. This ancient Buddha image was made by Sukhothai craftman in Mahathammaracha I era. For the head and the body parts of this image were taken from the different Buddha images. Moreover, the head part contains Buddha’s relics which make Phra Phutthamongkhon Saksit image much more special.

Luang Phor Phutthamongkhon Saksit

On the opposite side, you will see the 449 steps of staircase up to the hill which is the highest point of Uthai Thani. You can appreciate an amazing landscape and drink in the stunning sunrise and sunset up there. Apart from an elegant view, you can find many sacred points as well.


Mondop Sirimahayakutakarn

Whenever you reach the top of the hill of Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri, you must not miss visiting “Sirimahayakutakarn”- the splendid Thai Mondop on the hill, which was built in 2448, BE. It has “an imitate Buddha’s footprint” and the Buddha images on all 4 directions within. The Mondop is compared as the place where the Buddha came back from heaven to Sankassa town and becomes Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri nowadays.


100Year-Old Bell next to the Mondop

In the front of the Mondop is where the 100 Year-Old Bell located. It was built in 2443, BE, King Rama V era. All visitors must come to ring this sacred bell, unless you have not arrived Uthai Thani.


The Royal Monument of Phra Pathom Barom Maha Chanoknat

Another highlight of this hill is visiting the Royal Monument of Phra Pathom Barom Maha Chanoknat, the father of King Rama I. The monument of of Phra Pathom Barom Maha Chanoknat or Thong Dee was made in double size of the real person in the sitting position, which holding a sword on the left hand and put the right on the knee. This is one of Uthai Thani residences’ prides.
