           The Bridge of the River Kwai is the most important historical place in Kanchanaburi. The bridge of the Death Railway was built in World War II. This remarkable iron bridge had inscribed a dozen of historical stories. Visiting the bridge becomes a signature for tourists in Kanchanaburi.

 The Bridge of the River Kwai

          Throwback to 2484, BE, the Japanese army gathered up about 61,700 allied prisoners to build this strategic bridge for connecting to Myanmar. The construction caused the difficulty, the brutal of war, the disease, even and the famine. More than ten thousands of the prisoners had died during one month of construction. In November 2487, BE, the bridge was bombed and destroyed in the middle part. After the war ended, Thai government renovated the bridge to be as before. Now, it is regarded as the symbol of peace.

           Previously, the Bridge of the River Kwai did not existed in Thai history. Due to the American’s film about the bridge, many foreign tourists came to Thailand to find it. Therefore, the province decided to name the bridge as the film to be an attraction of Kanchanaburi.
