Wat Tham Khao Wong

Wat Tham Khao Wong is located on Tambon Baan Rai, Utai Thani province and far12 kilometers from the district. This Dharma retreat on the hill is a four storey building and made of teak wood, Makha wood and the woods that were donated from old wooden houses in Thailand. Within the building, there are pavilions, viharn, kuti, a belfry and even a church together. From the outside, tourists might see only a huge wooden house surrounded by a towering limestone like some luxurious resort. In fact, this place is where most Buddhists come to learn Dharma, do a meditation, pray and respect the Buddha images. There is also a pond decorated with rock gardens and ornamental plants which costs more than 30 million baths in total for the construction.

The point of Wat Tham Khao Wong is a Thai-style wooden house with a beautiful decoration likes rock gardens or ornamental dwarf along the walkway and a big pond in front of the building that give you a cool and pleasant atmosphere. In the middle of the pond, there is a natural wooden bridge that becomes a main photo spot because of a beautiful backdrop from two mountains behind.

Wat Khao Tham Wong has 4 floors. For the space under the house, it was used to do dharma retreat but now it is moved to the front part of the temple. For the second floor, it is a viharn with a sacred imitate Buddha’s footprint. For the third, here is kuti and a place for dharma retreat. Ubosot is on the fourth floor which you can see an exquisitely landscape of the place.

Moreover, tourist can visit caves which are used for dharma retreat. There are 7-8 caves around the temple that give the calmly atmosphere for doing meditation. However, some caves are stalactites and stalagmites which can attract tourists.

In addition, the walkway to cave is quite steep, so the suitable shoes must be prepared before going up. On the top, you can see a Buddha image enshrined among the nature which could calm your feeling. We recommend you to go up in the morning or midday because it is getting dark quite quickly in the late evening. For the safety, you should have a guide during going to caves.
